The Second Amendment of the Constitution. Ratified December 15, 1791.

Appalachian Artillery exists offers new and used firearms and today thanks to the second amendment, ratified 230 years ago. A lot has changed in 230 years. One thing that the citizens of the United States cannot allow to change is the Constitution. Everyone has, and should have, the right to protect themselves, their children, and their home.

AAH is located in Washington county Ohio, a second amendment sanctuary county.

Appalachian strives to supply the needs of our customers.

Supplies of firearms of all types, along with ammunition for those firearms, have become extremely limited.  Appalachian procures our material from a number of wholesalers.  Appalachian can order any customer request based on availability. Appalachian also provides used firearms, and maintains a listing of our inventory on the site.  Appalachian is not currently a class III firearms dealer.

Appalachian follows all state and federal regulations.

Any pistol sales outside of the state of Ohio must pass through a licensed FFL dealer in the state of purchase.  Appalachian provides transfer services for Ohio residents purchasing long guns from online sites, and pistols from outside the state.  Paperwork and background checks are customary for all sales.  A current State of Ohio concealed carry permit is acceptable in lieu of a NICS check for Ohio residents.  Customers are responsible for shipping costs if shipping is required.

Appalachian stresses firearm and hunting safety.

Local customers can test fire guns if so desired during the purchase process.  Different safety parameters are covered with different types of firearms.  Single action pistols versus double action, for example.  Various manufactures of pistols have different types of safety mechanisms, and this type of information is conveyed to the customer.  Appalachian does not test fire all of the used weapons for sale.  Appalachian does not test fire any customer ordered guns, or any NIB weapons that might be in the company inventory.  Appalachian will test fire a weapon at customer request.  Appalachian offers a 100% return policy if a firearm does not function properly.  Customer must pay the return shipping costs if the item was shipped.

Appalachian also sells various tools and equipment, such as welders and generators, listed in the miscellaneous tab.

The lumber side of our business will be highlighted under the hardwoods segment of the site.  Appalachian Artillery and Hardwoods hopes everyone enjoys the site, and looks forward to serving the needs of customers looking for hunting weapons or personal protection firearms.

New and Used Firearms

AAH acquires firearms and ammunition from several different avenues. These include law enforcement agencies that are upgrading their arsenal, confiscated weapons from law enforcement agencies, and companies that sell and trade with these agencies. AAH also acquires firearms from estate auctions, private sales, and a host of different wholesale companies. AAH is constantly looking at wholesale distributors that are not currently set up with our business, and expanding with distributors relative to our needs.

All ammunition sales are final, no returns on ammunition.

Transfer fees are $25 per item transferred.  This covers both the FFL paperwork and the NICS background check.  Ohio does not charge sales tax on services.

Hardwoods Business

The hardwoods business selectively harvests various species of mostly hardwood logs on the farm.  Red Oak, White Oak, and Poplar are the primary species.  Appalachian will cut logs for those who transport the wood to the mill.  Appalachian offers planer services, and will provide custom trim manufacturing in the future.

G-Scale and HO Scale

The Baltimore & Ohio RR was incorporated in 1827.  In 1830, the B & O opened its first 13 mile section of track.  From 1830-1860, railroad building boomed in the U.S., and gradually began to replace canals, such as the famed C & O canal along the Potomac river.

In 1860, a young engineer named Theodore Judah identified the Donnor Pass in Northern California as an ideal location to build a railroad through the Sierra Nevada mountains.  In 1861, he had assembled a group of investors in Sacramento, and formed the Central Pacific Railroad Company.  He went to Washington, where he was able to convince congressional leaders and the president that the Transcontinental Railroad was a doable project.   President Lincoln signed the Pacific Railroad Act, and the Union Pacific Railroad was formed.  In 1862, the Act chartered the two companies with the task of building the Transcontinental Railroad.

The workforce was hard to maintain due to the difficult labor, so Chinese and Irish immigrants were brought in by the railroads.  The Union Pacific was able to move about four times faster than the Central Pacific, due to the slow advancement through the mountains.  In early 1869, they were only a few miles apart.  President Grant demanded the companies agree on a meeting point, and Promontory Summit, north of the Great Salt Lake, was chosen.  On May 10, 1869, the final spike was driven in what is known as the Golden Spike Ceremony.

With the advent of the railroads, along came the models.  Joshua Lionel Cowen was an immigrant who arrived in New York with his family after the Civil War.  Born in 1877, he was a successful inventor before he arrived in the US.  He grew up with real trains and avid expansion of the railroads.  He founded Lionel in 1900, and delivered his first train in December 1900.  It was powered by a battery, and was intended to be used as a storefront display to captivate their customers.  The early Lionel trains were usually found in stores as displays.  In the early 1960’s, as technology advanced, and people travelled by automobile and air, their fascination with model trains dwindled, Joshua L. Cowen had passed, and model railroading declined.

Today, model railroading has rebounded tremendously.  Lionel is strong, and there are various gauges from the small N gauge to the large G scale models, and several gauges in between.  There are also numerous manufacturers of model trains today, but Lionel and Bachmann are the leaders in the USA.

All sales are final, no returns.

The AAH story

The Appalachian Artillery side of the company was initiated in 2018, and finalized in March, 2020.  I was raised in a family that was deeply rooted in hunting and fishing.  My grandfather had eight brothers and sisters, and many resided in the Fort Gay and Wayne areas of West Virginia. Between relatives and friends of relatives, there were many opportunities and farms to hunt on.
